FORT WORTH — A registered sex offender who cut off his ankle monitor and fled a Fort Worth halfway house in early August was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday in South Carolina, say state authorities.
Four people have been arrested and charged with assisting 48-year-old Brent Allen Jozefkowicz evade authorities, said Lonny Haschel, with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Each was charged with "hindering apprehension, a third-degree felony punishable up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine up to $10,000," Haschel said.
At about 10:30 p.m. on August 4, Jozefkowicz walked away from the halfway house, located in the 600 block of North Henderson Street in Fort Worth. According to DPS, he served 16 years in prison for the assault of a 21-year-old woman, and two years in prison for indecency with a child. Authorities called him "extremely dangerous."
Haschel says the Myrtle Beach Police Department notified state authorities about Jozefkowicz's suicide Saturday morning. The identity of his body was confirmed Monday.
