Blog Tips: Old Articles About Past Deaths in Civil Commitment

5-15-15:

e-Clips are portions of actual cases decided by judges. Whether or not a case is a winning case judges will explain various issues related to a case and cite case law (Other cases) validating their opinion on that issue.

So as we read cases and find issues relevant to Civil Commitment we are clipping the judges explanation of that issue calling it an e-Clip. These e-clips can then be used by other folks building CC cases and thats why we have these e-clips.

For now, have a great day and a better tomorrow.

   Informational Posts

What are they? Sometimes we find and article on the Internet which has some value in it, but it is dated in the past, and most of the article is not relevant today (actual date of posting).

Example: In this article they mention "17 participants have died of old age or illness" that has occurred in the past, and deaths are something we want to keep track of, so we post the article WITHOUT a state associated to it (which would cause it to show as new NEWS) and we TAG it "MN-Deaths" that way it will only show when someone clicks on MN-Deaths on the left side of the blog, and they will see the highlights.

Informational posts can be used many ways to highlight information, as long as a TAG is assigned to the Informational post, so it can be referenced later on.

For now, have a great day and a better tomorrow.

3-7-2015:

Some readers have requested us to find a way to report State Specific "Reports and Research" as well as General RR. Effective today we will be adding a new post for each state titled "Reports and Research" with a special graphic.

Then -on the left side of the blog- individual access links to each. This will allow readers and support groups to know what is happening state-by-state.

This will help identify individual state reports to their legislatures, and long term we will move the state audits to these pages as well.

11-20-2014:

Effective this date we will be looking for and adding news reports of any type of violence at civil commitment facilities. To review JUST "Violence" articles, in the left-hand side of blog, click on the "Violence in CC" statistic.

Should anyone find such an article, even if it is old, we would appreciate a HeadsUp so we can post it. See this POST for example.

4-21-2014:

Gievn some of our readers are from foreign countries we have added a "Translate" feature on the left side of the blog.

12-18-2013:

Teaching Points: Journalists often include some phrase/paragraph to make their article more understandable to the reader. When that occurs we will highlight the background light grey. See example below from this post.

TP: The trial was not a criminal proceeding and the rules of evidence are different. The state had to show that Parsons had already been convicted of sex crimes and suffers from an abnormality that makes it difficult to control his sexual urges making him “more likely than not” to commit predatory acts of sexual violence if released.

12-7-2013:

Just a quick reminder for readers, we are seeking any "Support Groups" -in any state- that we can list so others can contact them on issues that families face. If you know of any please send a e-mail to eAdvocate@gmail.com so we can list that group.

Thanks

10-30-2013:

Since it is important to know the Policies a state uses with respect to civil commitment centers and folks, we have added a new section BELOW the CC Facility description.

So far we only have found Massachusetts which you can view here. When we have found each state's policy or other publications there will be a section like this one in that states CC Center.

If you know of others or additional links, please let us know so we may update this blog. As we find them we will add the NEW section to other CC Center states.

Thanks,
eAdvocate
